A. Work Guidelines
1A. The work in this section shall be designed in the plans as stamped concrete (brick, cobblestone, slate, etc.). All work shall include labor, material, equipment, and transportation required to complete the installation of stamped concrete. All work shall be completed by a qualified, trained professional.
2A. Preparation work including grading, sub-grade preparation, forming and furnishings of reinforcement (wire or rebar) when required.
3A. All work provided by contractor shall include: 1) provide and place concrete 2) provide integral or dry shake color hardener 3) provide and apply release agent 4) provide and apply special texture tools to imprint newly placed concrete 5) wash entire surface 6) apply special sealer and slip resistant to textured surface and 7) saw cut control joints.
B. Products
1B. Concrete mix design: The concrete shall have a minimum compressive strength of 3000 psi. Portland cement shall conform to ASTM C 150, Type I, II, or V depending on soil conditions. Aggregates shall conform to ASTM C 33, and shall be ½ inch. Mixing water shall be fresh, clean and potable. An air-entraining agent complying with ASTM C 260 can be used and/or retarded-set-water-reducing mixtures conforming to ASTM C 494. Nothing containing calcium chloride as an add mixture is permitted.
2B. Color hardener or integral color add mixtures shall be used.
3B. Antiquing release agent shall be used.
C. Installation
1C. Area shall have proper sub grade and reinforcement.
2C. Concrete mix shall be poured, placed and screened to the proper grade, and floated to a uniform surface in the standard fashion.
3C. Color hardener shall be applied (if not integral color) to the plastic surface by the dry shake method. It shall be applied in two or more shakes and floated after each, and troweled after final float.
3D. Apply an even coat of release agent over entire surface to be imprinted. This will help achieve an antiquing effect.
3E. While the concrete is still in the plastic stage of set, special texturing tools shall be applied to make the desired impression of the surface.
3F. Control joints shall be placed at pre-determined areas, and release agent will be washed off surface.
3G. Sealer may be applied with a minimum of one coat for protection to surface.
